My invention relates to balancers and more particularly to a type of balancer'readily adaptable for useon instruments such as trombones and the like, and the principal object of my invention is to provide av new and improved device of this type. In the drawings accompanying this specification and forming a part of this application I have shown, for purposes of illustration, one
form whichmy invention mayassume, and in these drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of this illustrative embodiment of my invention,
Figure 2 is a section taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1, while v Figure 3 is a section taken on the line 33 of Figure 2.
The use of a balancer on musical instruments such astrombones is quite common 29 for properly balancing the instrument to make possible a rapid execution of the instru- -ment. There are several types of balancers now in common use on trombones, but such balancers are either of the built-in type or 5 are of a. type not easily removable.- I have discovered that a balancer, 'readily' adaptable 'for use on such instruments as trombones and the like, may be easily and cheaply constructed in a manner to provide an easily and quickly attachable and detachable balanc'er so that the balancer best adapted for the use of each individual player may be readily attached to the instrument.
The embodiment of my invention herein shown comprises a trombone 11 having an upper tube 12' terminating at one end in a bell section 14, a lower tube 13 joined to the upper tube 12 by a curved member 15, and a slide 16 having an upper tube 17 and a lower v tube 18. The tubes 17 and18 of the slide 16 are adapted. toslide respectivelyin ashort tube 19 and in the lower tuber13, while a mouth piece 20 is secured to the end of the short tube joins the upper tube 17 and the lower tube 18 of the slide 16 and another brace 34 joins the upper tube 12 and the lower tube 13 while a similar brace 22 joins the short tube 19 and the lower tube 13 and two other braces 23 and w 33 join the upper tube 12 and the lower tube 19 opposite from the slide 16. A brace 21 1929. Serial No. 331,989;
13, and it is to this brace that I prefer to i of the base 25and is provided centrally with I a corresponding groove 30, while a Hat cover 31, cored out centrally and there provided with threads 32, is adapted to cooperate with thethreads-27 on the outwardly extending portion 26 of the base 25.
The balancer 24 is assembled on the brace I 33 of the trombone 11 by first placing thebase 25 of the balancer 24 against the brace 33 in such a manner that the groove 28 of the base 25 fits around'the brace 33, then while the base 25 is held in this position the ring 29 is fitted around'the outwardly extending portion 26 of the base 25 with the groove 30 of the ring 29 fitting securely over the brace 33, then the cover 31 is placed over the ring 29 and the threads 32 on the cover 31 are caused to engage the threads 27 on the outwardly extending portion 26, and then the cover 31 is turned until the threads 32 and 27 have drawn the base 25 to the cover 31 to hold the ring29 firmly there-between and therefore hold the balancer 24 firmly on the v brace 33.
From the foregoing it will be obviousto those skilled in the art that I have provided abalancer which may be quickly and easily attached and detached from the trombone in order that a balancer particularly adapted for the use of the individual player may be readily mounted on the trombone to properly poise the instrument in the players left hand without exertion, the balancers being made in diflerent weights.
It further will be obvious to those skilled in-the art that the embodiment of my invention herein disclosed accomplishes the principal object of my. invention.
At the same time'it also will be obvious to those skilled in the art that the particular embodiment of my invention herein shown.
and described may be variously changed, modified, and used, all without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and it therefore will be understood that the disclosure herein is illustra'tive only, and that my invention is not limited thereto.
